The Citizens currently sit as low as fifth, which could yet be enough to secure a Champions League place in the Premier League. That qualification would not hide what has been a disastrous campaign for the Premier League champions, however, who have never finished outside of the top four under Guardiola.
It therefore comes as no suprise that change is reportedly on the horizon. Players like Kevin de Bruyne, Ederson and Bernardo Silva could be heading for the exit door, as Viana looks to make room for much-needed reinforcements. And that could yet feature the arrival of one Sporting star.

According to The Boot Room, Viana now wants to bring Ousmane Diomande to Manchester City in his first raid on current club Sporting to welcome a player that Etihad chiefs love. The central defender reportedly has a release clause as high as £67m, but will be available at a discounted price of £50m this summer.
It’s a discount that City’s new sporting director will, of course, be well aware of and he could yet use his heavy Sporting links to sign the central defender for his new side ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea. A rising star, Diomande could complete the defensive rebuild that City got underway in January.

Whilst Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, John Stones and Manuel Akanji have all struggled with injuries this season, January arrival Abdukodir Khusanov has emerged from a debut to forget to solidify his place in Guardiola’s side. The 21-year-old is the present and future of City’s backline, which could yet feature a dominant partnership if Diomande arrives.
Described as a defender with an “incredibly complete” profile alongside Antonio Silva by football talent scout Jacek Kulig last March, Diomande’s rise has only continued at Sporting ever since. Still just 21 years old, the Ivory Coast star could join Manchester City and form a quartet of young centre-backs with Khusanov, Juma Bah and Vitor Reis.
From an ageing backline, Guardiola may have a wealth of rising stars to choose from by the time that next season gets underway. If there are any concerns that Diomande wouldn’t be ready to make his mark too, then Khusanov’s recent rise should quickly put those to bed.
Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain will have to undergo a knee surgery, which puts him in doubt for the ODI World Cup in October-November in India.The procedure will take place at Cromwell Hospital in London later today, which gives Ebadot just over a month to fully recover from the left ACL injury that forced him to miss the Asia Cup – it usually takes around six weeks for a sportsperson to return to action after such a surgery.The BCB’s senior physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury didn’t commit to a timeframe for Ebadot’s recovery, but said that the surgery had become a necessity. “Ebadot consulted a knee specialist in London this week,” he said in a press statement. “Upon extensive review of his condition, it was decided that Ebadot would undergo a left ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair.”At this stage, we are not in a position to provide further details including the rehab process and expected timeframe for recovery. However, we are fully committed to helping and supporting the player in every way possible in his journey towards returning to cricket.”Ebadot picked up the injury during last month’s third ODI against Afghanistan at home, which Bangladesh won, even though they lost the series 2-1.The injury wasn’t thought to be too serious at the time. Or even when Ebadot was named in Bangladesh’s Asia Cup squad earlier this month. But he was later withdrawn when it became clear that the injury needed attention. The selectors subsequently named Tanzim Hasan as his replacement.Ebadot was one of the form bowlers in the Bangladesh white-ball set-up before his injury, and his 22 wickets at 22.90 since his ODI debut in August last year has made him the top wicket-taker in the format for his side.

Contratado por empréstimo em março deste ano, após o início da guerra entre Ucrânia e Rússia, no Leste Europeu, Maycon pertence ao time ucraniano do Shakthar Donestsk, que possui os direitos do jogador até dezembro de 2025.
O Timão trabalha para ver se conseguirá ampliar o empréstimo, já que conflito entre países segue no Leste Europeu, mas sabe que pode ter pela frente a concorrência de outras equipes europeias interessadas em contratar o volante em definitivo, o que agradaria a direção do Shakhtar.

Matthew Hayden believes Tilak Varma’s inclusion in India’s squad for the men’s Asia Cup is a “good strategy” as it would put pressure on Suryakumar Yadav and keep the rest of the frontline batters in the side “honest”.”We’ve seen the class of Tilak Varma. I think it’s a good strategy in terms of not just this World Cup but even potentially getting into the next World Cup as well,” Hayden said on the sidelines of the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards ceremony in Mumbai. “The great thing about India is it’s got a really solid one-two-three combination. Similar to Australia actually, when you look at their last four or five months, they’ve had a really good and strong – what we like to call – the engine room. And then they’ve got some good problems to solve through the middle order.”And if they can fill spots with talented young players like Tilak Varma, put pressure on someone like Suryakumar Yadav, I think that’s a good strategy. Ditto with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have missed the last few months because of injuries too.”In the landscape of modern cricket now, you’re going to get injuries,” Hayden said. “We’ve seen that with Jasprit Bumrah and we’ve seen the emergence of players in and around him that have had an opportunity because he hasn’t been playing. They look at their bench strength as much as they look at their playing make-up because ultimately you’re going to be challenged.”When I look back at the World Cup campaigns that I was a part of, I remember [Shane] Warne was out with a drug-related incident [in 2003] and then [Brad] Hogg comes into the side and has an unbelievable series in South Africa. So as much as we’d love to see superstars feature in World Cups, the outliers tend to be those players that might win you a World Cup. It might be Ishan Kishan, for example. He might have an unbelievable World Cup and blast everyone away. The selectors don’t write their names down first, but they have something special and they can deliver it on a World Cup stage.”There are some key questions for India heading into the 50-over World Cup at home this year: who will be their No. 4? What will their middle order look like? While captain Rohit Sharma said he wanted to keep the batting order flexible, Hayden said the Asia Cup would give India a chance to fine-tune their plans and possibly find answers they need.”The Asia Cup is kind of where you’re going to see a lot more answers to those questions,” Hayden said. “Playing in their home conditions, in the build-up to the World Cup – the World Cup’s on our doorstep – that’s about as good as you get from the subcontinent teams, playing in Sri Lanka, in Pakistan, ahead of an enormous campaign here in India. Tasmania wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has been suspended after accumulating a third level one code of conduct breach in 18 months during Monday’s Marsh Cup contest with Victoria, which triggered an automatic two-game ban.Wade hit the pitch forcefully with his bat in frustration at facing a dot ball during his innings of 25 in the three-wicket loss at Junction Oval in Melbourne. That action was deemed a breach of Article 2.5 of the Cricket Australia code for abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.He was charged and found guilty after accepting the charge. It is the third level one breach Wade has copped in an 18-month stretch and although they are all relatively minor, three breaches during that time incurs an automatic ban of two games.Wade will now miss Tasmania’s next two Marsh Cup games on Wednesday, September 27 against New South Wales in Melbourne, and against South Australia in Adelaide on October 8.
