The five goals he scored in April alone put Napoli back on top of the table and allowed the player to set his own personal record for goals in a season. He is the first Scotsman to win the Serie A Player of the Month award, an award that has been won a total of 11 times, out of 53 editions, by a Napoli player, a club that holds the absolute record in this special classification”.

Ahead of the game against Liverpool, Howe has been speaking about midfielder Lewis Miley, and he has backed him to be an “outstanding” player for Newcastle “for a number of years”. This comes as Miley scored against Forest on Sunday in what was his first Premier League start of the campaign.

“He can be anything – he could really solidify that position and be outstanding for us for a number of years. He’s going to need a bit of luck to do that – every player needs to stay fit and injury free – that’s why we need to look after him.

“He can do a bit of everything; he’s got the running capacity – the big lungs that enable him to physically produce what he needs to in those positions. He has all the technical and, most importantly, mental capabilities. He’s played some huge games but played them like he would in training.

“He’s very composed – one of our best technical players – so I see a bright future, but he will have all the pitfalls that young players have. He needs to stay humble and level, concentrate on his training, and listen to his coaches.”

As Howe heaps praise on Miley, Lewis Hall has also received significant praise for his performances this season. Former England strikers Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer would not be surprised to see Hall get a call-up to the next England squad given his impressive form.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast (relayed by Give Me Sport), Shearer said: “I thought Lewis Hall was very, very good as well at left-back.

“I hope Thomas Tuchel has had a good look at him, and with an England squad not too far away, do not be surprised if he’s in it. Because he showed some really good form today, I thought he was excellent.”

Tottenham are convinced they’ve signed a “generational talent” in Tel, with journalist Dean Jones now sharing what the future holds in store for him after Spurs signed the attacker on loan with an option to buy.

According to Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Tottenham fully intend to sign Tel permanently, but the reporter personally doubts whether Postecoglou’s newest recruit wants the same thing.

Arsenal’s lack of a striking option was on full display once again on Wednesday as they failed to break Forest down time and time again, with makeshift front man Mikel Merino registering their only shot on target after Riccardo Calafiori had hit the post.

Arteta’s best hopes of winning a first piece of major silverware since their FA Cup triumph in 2020 lie in Arsenal’s Champions League campaign, with interim sporting director Jason Ayto planning summer recruitment ahead of a potentially more successful Premier League title challenge next term.

Following long-term injuries to both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, some reports have even suggested that Arsenal could look to sign two strikers before 2025/2026.

Now, according to journalist Steve Kay, the need for a new centre-forward or two is made all the more prevalent by the extent of Jesus’ injury. The £265,0000-per-week striker was just hitting a rich vein of form, before rupturing his ACL during Arsenal’s FA Cup third round defeat to Man United, and it appears he could be out for the foreseeable.

Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, says that Jesus could be out injured for Arsenal until 2026, with the Brazilian facing a leave of absence for the rest of this calendar year in a major blow for the Gunners and Arteta.

“Yeah, with Ollie Watkins. I had a conversation today with the main man, and Arsenal aren’t going away from Ollie Watkins,” said journalist Steve Kay.

“Because of the injury to Gabriel Jesus, he may not be expected back until possibly into 2026, maybe November, late, late. I’ve been told that Ollie Watkins is still on the agenda because they need two strikers.

“That £40m will stay on the table and if Watkins is happy to come, he will come. I’ve also been told this will not affect going in for a main striker like a Sesko. It won’t be any more than £40m. £40m is the only number I know of, it may be a bit lower than that because it’s another year.”

Leeds United have now been handed a boost ahead of their summer transfer business after the stance of one of their transfer targets became clear, with pressure now on to be in the Premier League next season to ensure that they land their man.

Now, it has emerged that confidence that Leeds will be promoted come the end of the campaign is shared even by some of their transfer targets.
