Líder de passes certos do Botafogo, Lindoso quer ver o time crescendo

Procuramos sempre evoluir. Começa do zero.

Sthalekar stars in big Australia win

Australia scraped home with one ball remaining after Jess Cameron’s half-century set up their successful chase in the first Twenty20 at North Sydney Oval

Lisa Sthalekar led a comprehensive Australian routing of New Zealand in the second Twenty20 at North Sydney Oval, where the Australians took a 2-0 lead. Sthalekar scored the only half-century of the match as Australia posted 5 for 128 having been sent in, and she then claimed 3 for 16 in New Zealand’s chase.New Zealand were in trouble from the start of their innings, losing a wicket in each of the first three overs. Katie Perkins (19) was the only player to reach double figures as they crashed to be all out for 69, their lowest total in a Twenty20 international and the fourth-lowest all-out total by any side.Julie Hunter proved a nightmare for the New Zealand batsmen as she collected 2 for 4 from her three overs, while Sarah Coyte and Erin Osborn each colletced two wickets. But the standout performer was Sthalekar, who opened the bowling with her finger-spin, having already done the damage with the bat.Batting at No.5, Sthalekar came in with the score at 3 for 52 at almost precisely the halfway point of the innings, and her 52 from 32 balls helped the Australians push up to a competitive total. Meg Lanning (27) and Alex Blackwell (20) also contributed for Australia.

O então presidente Marcelo Teixeira conduziu as negociações. O atacante ganharia R$ 25 mil mensais.

Medalhões no elenco

O Santos contava com alguns jogadores veteranos como: Fábio Costa, Fabiano Eller, Roberto Brum e Roni. O Peixe entrou desta forma contra o Oeste: Fábio Costa, Adaílton, Fabiano Eller e Domingos; Luizinho, Roberto Brum, Rodrigo Souto, Madson, Molina e Triguinho; Roni.

Quase 22 mil no Paca

Battered India face uphill task

ESPNcricinfo previews the fourth match of the tri-series between West Indies and India in Port-of-Spain

The Preview by Devashish Fuloria04-Jul-2013Match factsFriday, July 5
Start time 0930 (1330 GMT)A different ball game: The Indian team has found the going tough on the slower pitches in the Caribbean•AFP

Big PictureIndia arrived in the West Indies with their confidence rocketing sky-high but in just over a week, the engines have come off. The two losses in Kingston mean they now find themselves in a position where even two wins won’t be enough to guarantee their progression. Both Sri Lanka and West Indies have the cushion of a bonus point and India will need to find at least one to improve their position. A loss won’t totally obliterate India’s chances either but will leave them hoping for the remaining results to work in their favour. West Indies, on the other hand, are sitting comfortably with nine points from two games and a win will confirm them as one of the finalists.India were rightly being showered with a lot of praise after their success in the Champions Trophy which was built on the energy the young shoulders brought. Since then, the players, as well as the captain, have proudly talked about them being the No. 1 side in the ODIs in a manner reminiscent of India’s Test team a couple of years back. But there are lessons to be learnt from the nosedive India took in Tests after that.Top sides are not dependent on a couple of players to pull them through every tricky situation. Top sides have attacks that are not neutralised by conditions. Top sides do not let everything through in the field all day after proclaiming themselves as the best fielding unit. Till India can bring the consistency to deliver in a variety of conditions, their hold on that No. 1 ODI ranking will remain slippery. One thing in their favour, however, is that they have a young team which has shown the right facets to be successful in the longer term.India’s free-flowing batsmen found the going tough on the slowish pitches at Sabina Park and with the conditions not likely to be too different in Port-of-Spain, the lesson for them is that once you are in, make it count. Chris Gayle did that in the first match, then Johnson Charles followed that route in the second and in the third, Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga proved how effective it can be. Rohit Sharma did the tough part in the first match before taking a wrong turn when the freeway beckoned.Virat Kohli fined for slow-over rate

India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 20% of his match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka. The rest of the India players have been fined 10% of their fees after the side was found to be one over short.

India’s bowling remains a bigger worry and it remains to be seen how they regroup after the battering they received in the previous match. Shami Ahmed lacked rhythm and at times, his run-up reminded of Munaf Patel’s slow amble to the crease. Despite him being as guilty of leaking runs as anyone else, he could be the first head to roll, and the onus could be back on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bring the bowling unit’s confidence back.West Indies’ bowling has thrived in home conditions. Their fast bowlers were the only ones who managed to make use of the moisture in the Sabina Park pitch and their medium-pacers and spinners have been tough to score off. With their long batting order in good nick, they are finally showing signs of extending their Twenty20 form to ODIs.Form guideWest Indies WWTLW (most recent first, last five completed matches)
India LLWWWIn the spotlightHis claim to fame maybe T20s, but after six years and 80 matches, you would expect Kieron Pollard to crack the ODI code. But he hasn’t. His average throughout his career has stayed below 30 and his underachievement in the format can be likened to how West Indies themselves have fared in ODIs – replete with talent, but nothing to show for it. Pollard has been generally found out by quality quick bowlers around the world, but in this series, he has two of the slower attacks in cricket, and in India, one of the weakest too. After scoring 0 and 4 in the series, it is high time he takes the advantage. In a line-up full of generous bowlers, R Ashwin boasts of an economy of less than five but for a lead spinner, he doesn’t buy his captain many wickets. After 55 ODIs, his best is 3 for 24. His numbers suffer further when he bowls outside the subcontinent. Two days ago, when Ashwin was introduced to rein in the Sri Lanka openers, he had no answer. India’s weakness in pace is well-known, but it’s the ineffectiveness of their spinners in this series that is worrying.Team newsWest Indies made one change to their squad for the Trinidad matches, bringing in fast bowler Jason Holder in place of the injured Ravi Rampaul, but they are likely to keep their pace combination of Kemar Roach and Tino Best to hustle the India batsmen. Dwayne Bravo, who was rested in the previous match as a precautionary measure following a groin strain, will return to lead the side at his home ground.West Indies (probable) 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Dwayne Bravo (capt), 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Kemar Roach, 11 Tino BestIndia felt Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence in their previous game as the first wicket that usually comes early took 39 overs to come. He could replace Shami Ahmed in the XI.India (probable) 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 M Vijay, 4 Virat Kohli (capt), 5 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Umesh YadavStats and trivia West Indies’ win-loss record against India at Queen’s Park Oval stands at 7-4 In this series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the most economical of India’s frontline bowlers. He is No. 15 on the list Chris Gayle has four centuries against India, his most against any countryQuotes”The wicket last time was really slow and I just had a look, it has a bit of grass this time around, but it seems to be the same as the last time. I don’t think there is much of an adjustment needed as far as the conditions are concerned.”
“It’s like a dream come true for me. It’s always good to play in the Oval. But to be the captain of the West Indies team is something special.”

Launch external investigation into all IPL 2013 games – Manohar

Shashank Manohar, the former BCCI president, has said the Indian board should seek a probe into all the IPL 2013 matches by an external investigation agency

Shashank Manohar: “The BCCI has to deal with this menace with an iron fist”•Getty Images

Shashank Manohar, the former BCCI president, has called for an investigation by an external investigation agency of all the IPL 2013 matches. Manohar said the BCCI should not solely depend on the board’s and the ICC’s Anit-Corruption and Security Units (ACSU) to keep cricket clean as they do not have the authority to track illegal activities – tracking phone conversations, for example.”The BCCI should immediately file a criminal complaint with the investigating agencies, urging them to probe all 75 games [76] in the current IPL edition,” Manohar told the . “The board should provide them [the investigating agency] with a raw feed of the games as well as CCTV footage recorded at every venue.”It has to deal with this menace with an iron fist. The board or ACSU do not have any machinery or legal authority to track the illegal activities, so it should not depend on these agencies alone.”His comments come in wake of the alleged spot-fixing in IPL 2013, in relation to which three Rajasthan Royals cricketers were arrested on May 16. The controversy has since grown, with top Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan being arrested for allegedly betting on IPL games, and his father-in-law – who is also the BCCI president and managing director Super Kings’ owner, India Cements – N Srinivasan refusing to resign from his post with the Indian board despite mounting pressure to do so.Manohar said in an earlier interview with the that he had spoken to some of the BCCI officials before their emergent working committee meeting on May 19, and told them if they wanted “to clean things up, then do it thoroughly. If, at the end of it all, 13 and not three players are involved in fixing, so be it”.Apart from making sure the IPL is clean, now Manohar said it’s important to have stringent processes in place for international cricket played in India too. “The board should approach the central home minister, requesting governmental support in investigating the criminal actions in any event run by the BCCI, which would also include international fixtures. It should request [the minister] to send an advisory to all states one month before the start of an event, so that the investigating machinery can swing in action well in advance to prevent any match-fixing , betting or spot-fixing.”The BCCI, he said, should ask players to register their mobile-phone numbers with the board, so that the investigating agencies could monitor things with more efficiency.

PL25: The greatest centre-backs in Premier League history

After hanging up his boots in 2015, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand is undoubtedly remembered as one of the greatest centre-backs in Premier League history.

Six top-flight titles, alongside a Champions League honour in 2008, is enough evidence of that. But perhaps the ultimate question surrounding the 39-year-old is whether he was the very best we’ve seen over the last 25 years of the Premier League.

Football FanCast takes a look at the candidates in with a shout for that title, and then give you the power to decide…

Rio Ferdinand

No centre-back on this list earned more top-flight honours than the former England man, which is a stunning achievement in itself. In many ways though, Ferdinand’s credentials for being the Premier League’s greatest centre-back lay in the fact he was much more than simply a talented and athletically imperious centre-half; during Ferdinand’s era, few central defenders offered his quality in possession, speed and agility in quite the same way.

It made him the perfect centre-back partner, capable of covering behind a more old-fashioned accomplice or bringing the ball into United’s midfield to link up with Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes – a vital component of the Red Devils’ ability to build attacks from the engine room.

It’s incredibly telling two clubs spent a combined £52million on him in the space of two years, back when that was an almost unprecedented amount of money for any player let alone a defender. But if there’s one criticism of Ferdinand, it’s that he was only truly at his best when placed alongside someone like Nemanja Vidic who offered that physical and aerial dominance.

Sol Campbell

A considerably less elegant centre-half but for what Sol Campbell lacked in style he more than made up for in sheer brutish physicality. In that sense, Campbell had absolutely everything; a towering leap, plenty of speed and the strength to wrestle a baby rhyno. Add great positional intelligence and occasional running-back-esque marauds up the pitch into the equation and Campbell was easily one of the most feared defenders in Europe during his hay-day.

He was also a vital member of Arsenal’s Invincibles starting XI as it’s most defensive element, which is perhaps the strongest endorsement of the former England international’s credentials – he started all but three games that season. Likewise, it takes an exceptionally brave man to trade the Tottenham captaincy for a place in the Gunners’ backline by way of a free transfer and mental toughness was a huge part of Campbell’s game as well; for varying reasons, he’s had to endure his fair share of stick and abuse down the years.

The obvious negative compared to the rest on this list though, is that Campbell is the only one to concede more goals than make appearances in the top flight. That’s largely due to his time at Portsmouth and Spurs’ many years wading through mid-table mediocrity.

Vincent Kompany

The only candidate still plying his trade in the Premier League, albeit at a far reduced capacity due to continuous injury problems. But that shouldn’t take away from how exceptional Vincent Kompany was during both of Manchester City’s title-winning seasons, all the more impressively playing alongside Joloen Lescott and then Martin Demichelis.

What always stands out most about Kompany, aside from the usual physical dominance and aerial ability you’d expect of top-class defenders, is how he plays on the front foot, regularly stepping up to nick the ball and instigate a counter-attack rather than simply waiting for the action to come to him. That underlines the attacking ethos the Sheik owners have attempted to create at the Etihad and the Belgium international has been a central figure in City’s stunning rise, captaining them from 2011 onwards.

Only this season have City looked anywhere near as formidable without the crocked captain in their starting line-up and while that’s partly inevitable considering how exceptional a centre-half he is, it’s also a testament to the leadership, organisation and inspiration he provides.

Nemanja Vidic

Nemanja Vidic made the fewest Premier League appearances of any centre-back on this list but he was the second-most successful during that time, his five titles only trumped by defensive partner Rio Ferdinand. And that’s not a mere coincidence; he was the perfect foil to Ferdinand’s more technical style. While Vidic was no slouch on the ball himself, his greatest strengths resided in the more traditional centre-half job description – essentially, keeping the ball out of the net by any means possible.

That required body-on-the-line blocks and last-ditch tackles, while few, if any Premier League defenders, have come close to matching his utter dominance in the air. He and Ferdinand produced arguably the most balanced and fearsome centre-back partnership in Europe during their best years and nine seasons together produced five titles, alongside a European honour in 2008.

There are drawbacks, though – chiefly that Vidic did have a knack for getting himself sent off and after a serious injury during the 2011/12 season, he was never quite the same force again.

John Terry

The complete centre-back, pure and simple. John Terry was the best in the world at defending the near post for pretty much his entire Chelsea career, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg of what the Captain, Leader, Legend offered the Blues. Much like Vincent Kompany at City, he was one of the the driving forces behind Chelsea’s rise under Roman Abramovich, captaining the team to five Premier League titles (the first and last a decade apart) and a Champions League in 2012.

On top of that though, Terry was simply an exceptional footballer up until a few years ago when his talents noticeably waned. Completely dominant in both boxes, to the extent that he’s the top-scoring defender in Premier League history, a fantastic reader of the game and brilliant at distributing the ball with both feet – something that went unappreciated for much of his career.

Terry’s game lacked any real weaknesses and evolved over time to suit his age. Furthermore, it’s a testament to his mental strength that a player who drew such negative attention from the media, often rightly so, for a whole host of different reasons never allowed it to affect his performances or his ability to lead the team. People have questioned whether he almost had too much influence at Stamford Bridge though, and whether that’s affected the success of the club over the years.

So, who do you rate as the best centre-back in Premier League history? Vote below…
