It would have been funny if it had not been so serious for Ravi Bopara, a man with almost-certainly dashed England hopes. He batted today with a runner for just over an hour and a half, ran himself out in classic village green style and did not appear in the field for the fag end of this Division Two stalemate.Although Essex were optimistic about Bopara’s ability to be fit for the first Test against West Indies, starting at Lord’s on Thursday, the evidence of his innings suggested England would be unwise to take the gamble. He suffered a “slight tear” to his right thigh in the field on Friday and though he batted for his team, at No. 8, in pursuit of bonus points, his discomfort was clear.During an over in the morning Essex had four batsmen on the square while Bopara and Alviro Petersen used runners, a rare occurrence for a partnership at first-class level, perhaps in any cricket. Bopara looked far from sprightly when he instinctively moved into a run with a midwicket stroke off Ivan Thomas and pulled up with a ghastly stagger. After some scurried runs seemingly in all directions, and five balls without any real mishap, both batsmen sent off their assistants – though Bopara was publicly persuaded to change his mind by the Essex physio Chris Clarke-Irons. So Greg Smith trotted back on, while Petersen, hobbling on a sore ankle, did his best without Tom Westley.With no sign of declarations or targets, Essex’s innings creaked along, owing just about all momentum to Mark Pettini. The last three wickets fell for no runs when Charlie Shreck picked up two in two and Bopara ran himself out, finally forgetting his runner. Bopara pushed a Mark Davies delivery into the covers and set off for the single, reaching ‘safety’ at the other end along with his runner before realising he should have stayed at the crease. Kent did not spot their opportunity until Shreck screamed at his colleagues to get the ball back to wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, who removed the bails at leisure.Pettini, seeking his first Championship hundred for three seasons, batted exceptionally well, though he struggled to score against the constant probing by Davies, the pick of the Kent attack. Resuming on 61, Pettini cut effectively, concentrated well and look set for his much-needed century when Thomas seamed one back into him to win an lbw shout and the innings tailed off after that.Thomas, 20, impressed as a Championship rookie with more whip in his action than one might think. He has had first-class experience with Leeds-Bradford University this season, including the destruction of a callow Sussex side, when he took 6 for 21 in the second innings in Leeds. A memorable maiden wicket for Kent came courtesy of a flying goalkeeper catch in the covers by Brendon Nash, clinging to a full-blooded cut by Essex’s captain James Foster.Both counties harbour expectations of climbing out of this division, but it was a shame that some sort of arrangement could not be reached. Kent, 131 ahead overnight, might have persuaded Essex to chase something as they held some aces in Davies, Shreck and the England offspinner James Tredwell. Thomas could also have been added to the mix on an easing, but still helpful, Chelmsford strip.With Bopara and Petersen unfit, Essex’s batting looked depleted. “The problem with declaring overnight would have been forfeiting batting points, though as it turned out we didn’t get any,” Foster said. “We weren’t expecting to get only 181; we were hoping to get 350. A chase would have been quite a risk as the ball was nibbling about.”Rob Key felt he lost “a horror” of a toss and was elated that his Kent side had gained a first innings lead after their collapse to 9 for 5, thanks mainly to a superb century by Darren Stevens. As so often in county cricket, the effort of fighting back seemed to inflate the fear of defeat. “It was so wet on the first day and by the end it was so dry,” Key said. “We thought it was going to be hard work trying to set up a game. I felt we would have to throw up so many and we would only have two sessions, if that, to bowl. The pitch didn’t deteriorate enough to make it interesting. Essex would have been able to block out, so that the result was either a win for them or a draw.”

وتشير أحدث المعلومات من الموقع الإسباني، بأن الحادث وقع بمنزل القاضية في الدور الأرضي، لكن لم يتعرض أي شخص لأي إصابة في المنزل، ولم يُلاحظ أي شيء غريب وراء الحادث نفسه.

Logo nas primeiras palavras retornando a Pelotas, Zimmermann tentou ao máximo tirar qualquer possibilidade de ter o rótulo de “salvador da pátria”, ressaltando que todos serão importantes na recuperação dentro da temporada:

Chris Gayle and the WICB have reached an understanding that paves the way for the former West Indies captain to return to the national team as early as the upcoming tour of England, Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) has reported. However, the deal’s success will be tested by an ongoing lawsuit – to which Gayle is a party – between the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) and the board. Gayle hasn’t played for West Indies since the 2011 World Cup.The agreement between Gayle and the WICB was brokered by CARICOM (the Caribbean Community) and had the involvement of St Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves. According to the report, a meeting will be convened between the two parties to “tidy up residual matters” after both parties expressed regret for their actions. “In the light of all of this, the WICB and Mr Gayle agree that the way is now clear for his active return to West Indies cricket, subject to all necessary fitness considerations,” the report quoted from the agreement. “A date is to be set for this meeting, convenient to all parties, including Mr Gayle who is currently in India,” Baldwin Spencer, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, and the chairman of the Prime Ministerial sub-committee of cricket was quoted as saying.Gayle has reportedly said he will be unavailable for West Indies duty for the entire duration of the IPL, which ends on May 27. West Indies are due to tour England for a full series between May 5 and June 24 and Gayle’s participation in the IPL means he will miss the Test series. However, he was prepared to forego his contract with Somerset and play for West Indies in the one-day and Twenty20 games on that tour. He also said he was available for the World Twenty20 this year and that he was not seeking to “cherry pick” the series he played.In a statement dated March 29, the board said it was “disappointed” over Gayle’s unavailability during the IPL but in the “spirit of compromise and subject to agreement being reached on all outstanding residual matters” it would convey Gayle’s unavailability to the selectors.The board hoped Gayle would drop the lawsuit concerning No-Objection Certificates filed by the WIPA against it, though Gayle, in a statement last week, said he could not “possibly contemplate withdrawing unilaterally from proceedings”, especially when such a move would affect all West Indies players. The board, though, has since written to Prime Minister Gonsalves, arguing that Gayle’s participation in the lawsuit was not consistent with the agreement reached with the board.It also questioned why Gayle could not withdraw from the lawsuit unilaterally. “As the lawsuit was started by WIPA without him, and his claims are set out separately, we do not understand why Mr Gayle says he cannot contemplate withdrawing from the lawsuit without WIPA.”Our efforts must surely be focussed on bringing about the resolution of all outstanding matters between the Board and Mr Gayle.”

Allan Donald, the recently appointed bowling coach of the Pune Warriors, said players and administrators of the franchise are “waiting with bated breath” to see if they will participate in the fifth season of the IPL. The franchise’s owners, Sahara India Parivar, withdrew their ownership of the Warriors an hour before the February 4 auction, throwing the participation of the team into doubt. Sahara and the BCCI have said they are open to negotiations with each other, and Donald said he is “hopeful” the Warriors will be able to compete.”We hope something can come of it,” Donald told ESPNcricinfo. “I met some really good people there and it will be a pity if it doesn’t work out.”Donald was contracted as the Warriors bowling coach in January 2012 and was part of a training camp conducted in Pune last week. He was impressed by the talent he saw there and was enjoying helping build the squad. The camp gave him a chance to get to know the local players. “Ashish Nehra and Murali Kartik were there and a couple of the new guys like Manish Pandey,” he said. “We met some of the younger guys and I can tell you there’s some really good talent. We also conducted a trial, which was really good.”The Warriors do not have a head coach, with a team consisting of Donald, Paddy Upton, the mental and conditioning coach, Praveen Amre, the batting coach, and Sourav Ganguly, player and mentor, entrusted with managing the side. Donald said the coaching team had already started building an ideology and style for the squad. “Paddy [Upton] did the team bonding brilliantly. We had it for two-and-a -half days and it wasn’t all-out cricket. We got to know each other and we really connected.”The fate of the players contracted to the Warriors is still unknown. The pullout surprised the team-management, who had travelled to Bangalore for the auction”It was an enormous surprise to all of us,” Donald said. “We had absolutely no idea. The night before we were up until past midnight, discussing which players we were going to buy. We would have got all of them.”Donald and Upton were flown to Mumbai that very afternoon and left for South Africa. The reality hit Donald “really hard on the plane because we had such a great camp.” Now, he, like the others involved with the Warriors, is “hoping for the best.”
